While Mao and his cadres claimed to be making a break with Chinese tradition and history, they demanded that the boundaries of the Manchu Dynasty be maintained. They invaded Tibet to ensure that, and are now ethnically cleansing Xinjiang (Uyghur) to maintain their hold on it.
