Oh, I agree, the estimates were obviously inflated. Josephus put it at 1,100,000, which was roughly how many people lived in the entire Levant at the time. Nevertheless, the point I was going for was that destruction of Jerusalem and many surrounding villages wasn't getting off easy.
It was devastating and it forced tens of thousands of Jews into exile. However, you would be very right in saying that it was one of many events that forced the migration of Jews throughout the Empire.
