They were also very hypocritical in that philosophy. The USSR fancied itself as a multinational entity where all people were treated the same, but in reality, it’s policies of “Russification” and its expansionist policies were taken from the Tsarist playbook. After they secured power in Russia, they went about trying to reconsider what they saw as the traditional Russian empire and any potential breakaway republics.
