This is not a case of using a modern lens, sir. And I apologize if I came off as offended. It’s just that as a historian I am aware of the arguments and the desire to find balance. But the etymology and intent of the word “barbarian” is not subject to debate. It always referred to people on the fringes who were deemed “uncivilized,” as well as warlike, dirty, superstitious etc.
