This legislation is so often misrepresented (and on purpose, of course). Like gay marriage, the GOP started this by trying to pass legislation banning trans people from using the bathrooms of their choice. As usual, they picked a wedge issue and drafted a discriminatory bill. That way, the GOP can claim "Democrats want perverts to use the same bathrooms as your little girls!" when they opposed it.
