You just answered your own question. People are supporting Ukraine because Russian forces invaded, have desecrated the country, and have committed unspeakable crimes.

Any claim that this is somehow the fault of NATO expansion only proves that Putin considers "security at Russia's border" to mean that he has to be in control of neighboring countries, directly or indirectly.

This is no surprise seeing as how it's what the Soviet Union insisted on between 1945 and 1989. And considering Putin has openly said he wants to resurrect the USSR, it's hardly a surprise he's trying to turn former SSRs back into satellite nations.

Furthermore, Russia's invasion has only ensured that Ukraine joins NATO. It has proven categorically that neighboring states require military support to ensure that democratically-elected governments remain in power, as opposed to Russian-backed puppets.
