While I understand the desire to see method in his madness, this whole idea of "this was his plan all along" makes no sense at all. Elon shelled out $44 billion to acquire Twitter, apparently as part of his tantrum about "wokism" and how he doesn't like what so many people have to say about him.
Before the offer was made, Elon's net worth was over $300 billion. It has since plummeted to $189.4 billion. That means he spent over 23% of his current net worth on a single acquisition - the most expensive in his personal and business history! He's been losing revenue ever since as advertisers and users are fleeing en masse.
Second, Elon tried to pull out of the deal when he got cold feet, citing bs reasons like "bots" and metrics. But Twitter's lawsuit effectively forced him to go through with it. So naturally, he decided to gut the company out of spite and try and rebuild it in his own image. He's been failing, but that's because he has no idea how to run a social media platform and his options are severely limited at this point.
While it has a certain perverse logic, the idea that he's deliberately destroying Twitter because he can't control it makes no sense. He DOES control it, he bought it for that very reason and he's pushing through unpopular changes. And it's costing him dearly. If Twitter goes down at this point, it won't just be the most expensive acquisition ever, it will be the biggest business failure in history.
